New to theatre, or want to learn more?
Fill out this form to apply to be a trainee on one of the OUTTS training shows! As a trainee, you’ll be assigned a show and an experienced head of department who will teach you everything they know. You’ll have to opportunity to shadow and learn from them as they put the show together, as well as to get stuck into the practical side and help out during show week. We’re hoping to create a really fun and friendly environment for our trainees where everyone is learning together, and putting on a phenomenal show in at the end! No deadline for signing up, but we will stop assigning trainees to a particular show one week before the show week begins.
This term’s training shows are:
Under Milk Wood: Performing in 5th Week at the Keble O'Reilly. Training in set and marketing. Under Milk Wood draws its audience into the small Welsh town of Llareggub, the backdrop for Dylan Thomas’ seminal 1954 “play for voices”. A prismatic portrait of a mundane community and its extraordinary individuals, the play is steeped in Thomas’ beautiful and lyrical language, painting his world in vivid detail. In our dynamic, ensemble-driven production, we are drawing on a wide range of theatrical tools to inject Thomas' text with awe and magic. Foley, puppetry, and large-scale technical ambition come together for this vibrant and imaginative telling of Thomas' timeless portrait.
Iolanthe: Performing in 7th Week at St John's Auditorium (TBC). Training in set and costume. Iolanthe (or The Peer and The Peri) combines Fairyland with the House of Westminster, and the result is Gilbert and Sullivan's most spectacular creation. We follow the story of the humble shepherd Strephon, engaged to the beautiful Phyllis, who faces up against the might and stupidity of the House of Lords in a perfect mix of political satire and operatic beauty. Replete with the comic patters, extraordinary speeches, and dazzling music that are iconic of the famous duo, Iolanthe is not to be missed!
